Cantina at Topaz

  • The Task

We were provided with an initial brief to create a pop-up Mexican restaurant within a shipping container. This container would be placed on a Topaz filling station forecourt as a market tester for a new food offering.

  • The Idea

Inspired by the Mexican cuisine we look at vibrant pastel colours, dynamic illustrations and textured woods to create the requested Latin effect.

  • Our Approach

Using the container unit as a brand model, we developed the brand and its assets into a fully formed, in-store offering. Applying an extensive knowledge of materials and construction methods and drawing on a robust and diverse pool of suppliers, we turned this in-store unit around within two weeks. In addition to the initial build, we also delivered amends that included an internal sound system and digital menu boards to accommodate a visit by the global company directors.

Design to build was completed in 2 months and included a full sided opening with hydraulic rams to allow for a covered service area.

  • The Impact

Nineyards have subsequently developed the Cantina brand through the installation of 3 additional in-store outlets. In 2016, the Cantina brand beat over 80 other Couche-Tard group offerings to win the global “Great Ideas to Go” award. We have now developed the global brand activation manual which will be circulated to the world markets and includes all instructions and specifications to be considered when building a Cantina outlet.
