Tirlán
The Task
Following an introduction from previous project partners, Dynamo, NYD were invited to review the potential of the Customer Experience Centre in the new head office of Tirlán, located in the heart of Kilkenny.
Located on the ground floor, with a floor-to-ceiling, full-width glass frontage, the Abbey Quarter CEC had the potential to not only meet business needs but also allow for connection to the wider community, reinforcing a vital part of the Tirlán story.
The Idea
After an initial discovery phase, it became evident that successful delivery of this project was going to involve more than good design, fabrication and material selection.
Delivering a space that serviced the many and varied usage needs of the Tirlán teams while having that capacity to “come to life” for the global industry leading clients was a challenge that the NYD creative team embraced with open arms.
Shifting the focus slightly to the user experience, the team looked to leverage the human connection to the space, enhancing each user action through immersive room changes, delivered using tactile brand triggers, making each person, part of the room experience.
Our Approach
We knew that a room as critical as the customer suite needed more than room impact – it required an element of excitement and anticipation.
To enhance these factors, we initially focused on the entrance hallway, to which we added acoustic baffles and specially developed wall and ceiling lighting fixtures.
We added control software and hardware to this lighting, allowing us to track both people’s movement and the time of day to create subtle points of interest—not overtly noticeable but designed to transition from a busy reception space to the immersive customer suite.
A large, customisable, LCD “shop window” screen allowed us to portray a clear representation of each brand without the need to consistently update physical elements.
This allowed the end users the freedom to select what they spoke about to their various customers in a manner that reflected their technical innovation.
Paired with this product window display screen, we added secondary infinity environmental wall videos, tailored specially for each sector which, when triggered, adjusted with the adaptive room lighting to transform the room into an individual reflection of the selected business department.
As critical as the customer experience is, the more common room status also needed to be considered as part of this, modular furniture, video conferencing and flexible presentation connections were included to ensure full usage by the entire business.
With the above primary and secondary layers in place, the final and most important factor to lock in was user control.
After many weeks of trialling, testing and developing options, we settled on a control system based around human movement with each room setting being triggered by customised acrylic brand “trophies” which were designed and manufactured with integrated RFID tags, each driving the many room elements through our own custom created control server.
It was this system that ultimately allowed us to maximise the full potential of the suite, allowing each user to be a part of the room rather than a passive user.
Whether internal users or global clients, the human-centred control system has already proven to capture attention and imagination in a way that continues to allow the Tirlán brand to stay front and centre.
The Impact
Providing a user centric, marketing suite was the key driver. Having recently completed a full building upgrade, the CEC remained awaiting an upgrade. Reflect innovation while being flexible and able to deliver for the various stakeholders and team members – internal and external Industry-leading and ahead of anyone else
